Frida Ruiz-Berman is a young, upcoming New York City-based jazz vocalist and actress from Houston, Texas.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, she spent part of her childhood cultivating a deep love for the arts through the Salt Lake City ballet, taking classes, and often attending performances. At a young age, her family relocated to Lisbon, Portugal, an experience that enriched her childhood with completely different experiences than what she had previously known. Learning a new language and form of communication, Frida became enamored with the arts, often singing Fado standards and traditional Portuguese songs as a way of seeking connection with a new country.
With her family moving back to Houston, Texas, Frida set her eyes on attending High School for the Performing and Visual Arts upon discovering her love for Theatre. She attended Humphreys School for Musical Theatre at Theatre Under the Stars and studied theatre both privately and in school before being admitted to HSPVA. At HSPVA, Frida received exceptional theatre training, attending daily acting and musical theatre classes with industry professionals. During her years at HSPVA, she discovered her love and passion for vocal jazz. As she developed her craft, Frida attended classes in the HSPVA jazz department with Warren Sneed, often performing in the semester recitals and building lasting bonds.
After moving to New York City in 2024, Frida began immersing herself in the city’s jazz scene, quickly making a reputation for herself as a young and promising vocalist. In the fall of 2025, Frida attended the Tribeca Jazz Institute, studying with professionals such as Lucy Yeghiazaryan, Michael Kanan, Paul Sikieve, Greg Ruggero, and Chris Byars. Freshly coming out of the program, Frida has begun slowly working her way further into the scene and developing her craft.
Praised for her classic and soulful renditions of jazz standards, Frida continuously morphs what she learns in acting class with her understanding of jazz, creating present yet refined interpretations. She is currently pursuing her BA in Acting at Fordham University while carving a place for herself following her time at the Tribeca Jazz Institute.
